DANY'S MINI WORLD

THE MAGIC OF MINIATURES

WELCOME to my Website about the World of Miniatures.

How it all started ...

I once saw a book about dollhouses that catched my eye because the book itself had the form of a house. It is “THE DOLLHOUSE BOOK” by Stephanie Finnegan and I think it is one of the most complete books ever written about dollhouses.

I allow myself to refer to a few lines I read in that book :

“quote”

A celebration of all creations great and small. It is a journey through the history and evolution of dollhouses, room boxes and tableaux. The dollhouse, a seemingly innocuous icon of the nursery and emblem of childhood innocence, is in fact a structure that reveals more about its owner and its era than any journal entry or newspaper clipping could ever hope to do.

It is known the dollhouses first appeared in the 17th century, mostly made by craftsmen located in Germany, Holland and England. Those houses were built in different architectural styles of course, often build as an entertainment for adults. German mothers often used the dollhouse to teach their young daughters how to take charge of a kitchen. Some of the houses even showed middle- and upper-class wealth. Apparently in Holland, the Dutch developed a passion for fine porcelain, paintings and carved furniture, in miniature of course. The 18th century witnessed the birth of the so-called English baby house, since baby was the british term for a child’s doll. They often were exact miniature copies of the collector’s home.
