THE GERMAN HOUSE

Mini Mundus House

I remember when I started with this hobby, thanks to my husband, many years ago, my very first contact was MINI MUNDUS. Since building miniature dollhouses is not a very common hobby in the country I'm living in, it’s rather difficult to find related stores. Only very few hobby shops carry some stuff from either MINI MUNDUS or BODO HENNIG, both German companies which are very well known over Europe and even beyond our borders, by people who are into this specific hobby, either on a commercial level or just for the pleasure of creating a mini-life of it’s own, like myself.

The first time I ever got myself some furniture kits from MINI MUNDUS, the guy in the store gave me their catalog and that’s where I first saw it, years ago. And I fell in love with it instantly. But, unfortunately it was very expensive and I wanted to try first if I really had some sort of talent before buying such a huge and expensive house. When I finished the American House, I had a wonderful surprise for X-Mas : guess what my husband gave me for X-mas ……… yes, you got it right, it was the kit to that beautiful house which I decided to call the “German House” because it comes from a MINI MUNDUS kit. Let’s not forget to thank my husband for that wonderful present.

If any of you are interested in this particular style of furniture, here's a link to the website (they alose have a well organized online shop). You may also discover the world's biggest miniature "store" ........... abolutely unbelievable !!

See the links section for MINI MUNDUS website !

BABY'S ROOM

The two rooms in the attic (or upper floor) could have been used in many other ways of course. I decided to make one of them the baby's room. The baby is still a little too young to play with all those toys, but I think a kid's room, no matter how old the kid is, should have toys in it. It's sad enough that so many children around the world don't have any.

SEWING/MUSIC ROOM

Yes, don't laugh .... it's the sewing machine again. Honestly, I didn't have a precise idea of what to do with this room. The first thing I added to the empty room was the fireplace and the Mona Lisa painting above it. Since I made this nice Parquet Floor, I didn't want to use it as attic. I took a look in the box where I keep my furniture and added the sofa and the table. Then came the piano and all together, I think it looks like a warm and inviting room where I would love to sit next to the fire when my hubby plays the piano or do some sewing.

MAID'S ROOM

Some of you may think that not everybody can afford a maid and you're right. But let's not forget one thing : this is only an imaginary world, so if the people living in this house can afford a maid looking after the baby, I think she should have her own room. The house is big enough and that way, she can always have some privacy. Her cat is just trying to go "fishing" as you can see.

BATHROOM

This little bathroom may be a bit small for such a big house. But I gave it a very special look by adding this beautiful water heater from Bodo Hennig. The porcelaine bathroom is from Mini Mundus.

THE MASTER BEDROOM

This is where the parents sleep, in a very beautiful brass double bed. The rest of the furniture has been made with decoupage technique.

The furniture and the decoupage kits are from Natasha Mini Decoupage Kits. I got mine from Motts Miniature Shop and you will find the link taking you directly to the page in the LINKS Section of course.

THE DINING ROOM

On the first floor, you have 2 big rooms and since the living and dining areas are very important, I decided to use these 2 big rooms for this purpose.

I paneled the wall myself, using a technique discovered in one of my many books. The porcelaine stove on the left side is one of the very beautiful and unique presents from my hubby.

THE LIVING ROOM

The furniture here is called the "Presidential Collection". They used a nice silk fabric which gives it a very classy look. I added this little marbled pannel in the staircase. You can see a more detailed picture of my window inserts in the T&T/D.I.Y. section.

THE KITCHEN

This a kitchen every woman dreams of, at least for it's size. This stove was another gift from my hubby and as always, the kitchen is filled with a lot of details. I used an old beach mat to make this flooring here.

THE MAIN ENTRANCE HALL

I thought that in such a beautiful, big house, the main entrance hall should already be an inviting room. The table is another piece made with the Natasha Decoupage technique. The dried flowers in the basket on the table are very easy to assemble. The highboy (Mini Mundus kit) in the back is also a unique piece of furniture, left-over from my very first dollhouse.

THE STORAGE ROOM

Even though we have a nice big kitchen, it's never useless to have some more storage room available. This little room right next to kitchen is just perfect for that purpose.

THE ROOF GARDEN ADDITION

My latest addition to the german villa : a nice roof garden devided in 2 parts. A sun deck and a potting shed.
