DEL PRADO 2

THE 2nd DEL PRADO HOUSE

Second Try with Del Prado, little better quality ! Although I wasn't very satisfied with the quality of the first house, I gave it a second chance and as you can see on this pic, they had improved a little bit. The greenhouse is a nice little addition to the house.

This house was rather easy to build. It might be a good solution either for beginners or for children who wish to start with the hobby. In fact, Del Prado published a magazine, quite affordable to everyone, with 1 issue a week, over 125 weeks.
Yes, that might seem like a long period of time to finish a dollhouse, but that’s also the reason why it is more affordable, since you don’t have to buy everything together. And somehow, it's even a lot of fun : to see your house grow a little bit every week. And a miniaturist usually works on more than just one project anyway, so while waiting for the next issue, I had always something else to do.

With every issue came either a piece to build up the house or a piece of furniture and/or accessories. The interior walls were already painted this time, so all that was left to do was to assemble the pieces, paint the outside and furnish it. The furniture also came assembled and painted, ready to be put in place. It is of course not the same quality of wood that you might get from another kit, but still, for (not to small) children to play with or even grown-ups who wish to start with the hobby and have a first look inside the world of miniatures, in my opinion it might be a good choice and as you can see for yourself, the result isn’t so bad after all. Plus, the collection of the 125 issues of the magazine represent a complete documentation about how versatile the world of miniature can be.

Take a look at it and you’ll be surprised what you can get for +/- 6 $ a week. Have fun !

FRONT OPN VIEW

After 125 weeks of patience and hard word, I finally finished my second house and with a little accessories and imagination, I really must say that it looks good. The only thing not so perfect on this one is the roof. I guess some day I will just remove the whole thing and make complete new one. Who knows, maybe I'll even add an entire floor to the house.

THE KTICHEN

I added a few accessories to the kitchen (which were not included in the magazines) but as you can see, it still looks a little empty. But I do have 5 houses and so, it sometimes takes a little while before I could say they are all finished and furnished.

THE DINING/LIVING ROOM

As already described before, all the furniture came ready to be put in place, assembled and painted. Once I had it all together, the result was very nice. If you don't have the patience to assemble and paint your furniture, you can of course buy finished pieces at any dollhouse store and just furnish your house. A little hint to see if it is a piece of good or less good quality : take out the drawers f.ex. and if they are not painted inside or underneath, just the part you see from the outside, the quality isn't the best. Those pieces are often manufactured in China or Taiwan and often not hand-made. For even less money, you can try to do one on your own.

THE MASTER BEDROOM

The door in the bedroom that leads to the veranda is what we call a "trompe l'oeil". There is in fact no real opening, but the door and what seems to be behind it are painted.

THE BATHROOM

This palm tree was my very first try to make a green plant of my own. I think it is a just a little bit too big (not exactly the right scale), but I thought it might look good in the bathroom. Just didn't want to throw it away only because it does not look perfect.

BABY'S ROOM

Almost everything you see on this picture came with the magazine. But you could always change, remove or add whatever comes to your mind or even make a completely different room

THE WINTERGARDEN/VERANDA

Usually the flower/plant stand you discovered on the previous picture is inside the Wintergarden, I just took it out for this picture to let you see the size of the entire thing.

THE "TERRASSE"

Sitting outside

This is a nice little veranda, on top of the greenhouse, which can be accessed from the bedroom. Sounds like a nice idea to have such a nice place to sit outside, right next to your bedroom, where you could sit for a drink before going to bed or having your breakfast in the morning.
