These japanese lanters are made from a printable project. As usual, I found those at http://www.printmini.com
Just select, print, cut out and ............ find the place for it !! All you need is a good printer and a few different sorts of paper. I thought I could use these for my garden party.

FAMILY PORTRAITS
|
This is a picture of my parents when they got married. I'm using a very simple technique here, which does of course require a few things like a good computer with Adobe Photoshop installed, a scanner and again a good printer with different types of photo paper.
First, you scan the picture and import it to Adobe Photoshop. Then you select the image and resize it to the right scale. Then you print it on a good quality photo paper, cut it out, put it in a frame and there you go : your very own family pictures for your dollhouse.
Tip : since good quality photo paper is expensive, you should not print 1 single tiny picture and then cut it out. Once you cut out one piece of the paper, it will be rather difficult to use it again in your printer. You should maybe scan more pictures or even copy some you found on the Internet and print them all at the same time on 1 piece of paper.
The easiest way to do this is with Microsoft Publisher, but you're of course free to use whatever software you have at your disposal.

THE TIGE SKIN RUG
|
This tiger skin rug is a printable project too. The only different here is that you print it directly to special fabric, available from HP for example. Most of the printables are already the correct size. Some Websites even offer different scales to print, like 1:12 or 1:24 or even smaller.

PRINTABLES PAINTINGS
|
When I first came up with the idea that the Pembroke Grange should become an italian villa, I started to look for the right paintings to hang on the walls. I found a few websites with great paintings from very talented people and all I had to do is copy and paste the picture from the Internet to my PC, get it down to the right scale and print it on photo paper. I made some frames myself of course and there I had my paintings.

MODERN PAINTINGS WITHOUT FRAMES
|
Because almost everything is available on the Internet, it's easy to make your own paintings and/or pictures to hang on your little dollhouse walls. I found most of mine at www.allposters.com, a wonderful source for this particular purpose. All you need to do is to copy and paste the pictures of your choice to your computer, resize them to fit in your dollhouse and print them on a good photo paper. Of course, a good photo printer is very useful too, but even if the quality of your printer isn't that good, it won't be too bad, since the pictures will mostly be very small.
Once I have them printed, I'm going though my box where I keep all the wooden pieces (leftovers from older projects), choosing the thickness of the wood and cutting it to the exact same size of the picture. You don't have to worry about painting the back, because once it will be glued to your wall, nobody will be able to see if it is painted or not :-)
Just paint the borders, let it dry and glue the picture onto the piece of wood. To hang it on your wall, you may use either a good all-purpose tacky glue (don't put too much glue too close to the sides though, because it will show when you push a little too hard to keep it on the wall), or simply a double-sided tape.

B/W PICTURES
|
This picture shows Liza Minelli in one of her most famous roles in the movie cabaret; the technique is of course always the same as for other paintings. The story behind hanging especially this one in Emma's room : well, she's a big fan of Liza's and the movie CABARET is her all-time favourite.
To make this frame here was a very easy project : once you have printed out your picture or painting, cut out a thin piece of balsa woord (approx. 2 mm) that is slightly bigger than your picture, about 5 mm on each side and simply paint the borders in white. Let dry completely (acrylic paints dry very quickly). I would recommand using a clear glue like UHU, because it does not set too quickly, which leaved you enough time to position your picture correctly.
Then take a piece of thin black cardboard and again, cut a piece out about 5 mm on each side than your white piece of balsa. You glue the whole thing then onto the black cardboard and you're done. The result looks really stunning.

BOOKS
|
This way of making books is very very easy. You only need to find printies (for ex. http://www.printmini.com) to suit your needs. I suggest you print those little book covers here on matt photo paper, not too thick, but still a lot stronger than just usual printing paper. This works better with the glue.
Once you have cut it out, all you need to do is cut out a piece of balsa wood the size of your book cover and bend it around the balsa, glue it on, leave to dry. Once the glue is completely dry, you may wanna add a little white or gold color around the edges so that the balsa wood won't show.

SHOE BOXES
|
While browsing the Internet, try to concentrate on search terms like "miniature dollhouse printables" and you will find a lot of interesting sites offering free printables
............ like this little shoe box.
And try to remember that it is best to print on either matt or glossy photo paper, depending on what you are printing of course.

HOLIDAY PHOTO ALBUM
|
There are different CD's available at http://www.hobbyworld.tv with lots and lots of cut-outs, very useful.
This little holiday album comes from one of those (if I remember correctly). The cover, pages and photos are printed and cut out seperately and you will most certainly end up with some glue on your fingers :-) because they are very tiny.

TRAVEL MEMORIES
|
Another pretty example of what you can do with printies / cut-outs. Here you see 3 different photo albums with lots of holiday pictures, a little bundle of old postcards and some other travel documents.
