MY VERY FIRST HOUSE
Beginner's mistakes

In my opinion, if you decide to get yourself your very first dollhouse, you should buy a kit and assemble it. It is a little easier and in the end it will certainly look better than you'd imagine. And with a ready-cut kit, you will avoid a lot of mistakes, believe me.

I made this one myself and did not plan it well enough, made a few mistakes, did not have the appropriate tools to cut out windows and/or doors and the wood I did choose wasn't the best quality, the MDF I used wasn't thick enough, so the doors and windows did not fit.

In the end, I did not keep it. Just removed everything from the house and started all over again with a kit from Real Good Toys and the result gave me a much bigger satisfaction.

You see, the first house was kind of a disaster, but that wasn't a reason to stop at all. It was more a reason to continue, avoiding to do the same mistakes again.

But still, I wanted to show you the few pictures I had left from that house, so that you can see the difference for yourself and not be discouraged if your first one will not make up to your expectations.

Front View

The house was never really finished. As you can see for yourself, if you take a closer look at this pic, there are many mistakes here. But I learned a lot from those mistakes and never made the same ones again.

Front View by night with lights on

Even though the house was never finished, I even tried to light it up. I kept all those lights of course for later projects.

THE DINING ROOM

Most of the furniture you see in this picture is still in a box, waiting for me to build a house or a roombox where I could use it again. But don't worry, nothing really stays in that box for a very long time.

THE FIRE PLACE

I made this fireplace myself, took me a while, because it was in the very beginning when I first started with the hobby. But I found the project in one of my early books about different D.I.Y. techniques and it's not too bad after all. Only the painting technique for marbeling walls .......... well, back then, I just could not manage to get a good result and I finally used this self-adhesive paper to have the marble effect.

THE KITCHEN

This is the kitchen that ended up in my Amercian House. I also did my first steps here in making food with Fimo. Better don't take a closer look at that.

THE LIVING ROOM

Maybe you already saw the German House and you recognize different pieces of furniture ............ the highboy on your left is now in the main entrance hall of the German House and the sofa is in the piano room on the last floor. The little side table on the far left is in the Amercian House in the Baby's Room and the corner shelf is in that same house, in the sewing room.

You see, even if the house was no good, the furniture can be always be used in some other projects.

THE MASTER BEDROOM

This bed was my very first try to make a piece of furniture out of scratch and with a little fabric and lace, it finally looked good enough to use it in this bedroom. The rest of the furniture is from Mini Mundus kits.

THE SECOND BEDROOM

One could always use a spare bedroom, in case guests would like to sleep over. As you can guess from this picture, at the time, I did not have as much furniture as I have today and not as much accessories either.

THE TAILOR'S ROOM

Since this was my very first house, it had to have this tailor's room. Somehow I just could not imagine a house without such a room. This beautiful working sewing machine is from Bodo Hennig and looks very much alike the one my father used to work on. I dedicated this room to him.

The old fashioned Bathroom

This wallpaper here was in the box with the Mini Mundus Kitchen, but I preferred to use it for the bathroom. I made this marbled floor and needed some wallpaper or paint on the wall to go with it.
