DANY'S MINI WORLD
A TINY LITTLE WORLD OF ITS OWN

Building a dollhouse and making it look like a house you would love to live in is a challenge.

It’s a fact that a professional miniaturist, no matter what kind of special things he or she makes in miniature, is a very talented person, an artist.

The fascination with dollhouses is increasing more and more all over the world and is certainly not confined simply to collecting ready-made items to furnish and decorate store-bought houses.

But being such a gifted person is not enough. To transform a few pieces of wood into something that looks real, except for being tiny, is not just about technique or woodworking or talent. What you need is imagination and above all, the ability of diving into that little world of its own. Once we become grown-ups, most of us seem to have lost that ability. Every child in this world has it, but unfortunately we seem to loose it while growing up.

In my opinion, it is important not to loose that, because the world we live in is lead by terrorism, wars, hatred, famine and all those terrible things. We should not ignore those things of course, if we are lucky enough to live in a country which is not dominated by any of them. But by being able to go back to our childhood, at least in our minds, we may perhaps make that world a little bit more comfortable to live in.

Discovering the world of miniatures and dollhouses is like a locked door has been opened. You can be creative, without having great artistic skills, all you need is patience and imagination. You can create very unique pieces for your dollhouse and explore your own ideas.

When I start a new project, I’m so consumed by it that sometimes at night, in my dreams, we live in that house, my husband and I. And I wake up with a smile on my face in the morning because I somehow found a way to live in my dollhouse. You do not only need a lot of patience if you want to become a miniaturist, either professionally or just as a hobby, but you need to be able to put a lot of love in such a project. And the more you love what you do, the more perfect you'll become and your work will improve with every day.

I have spend years reading books, magazines, articles about that hobby and you just never stop learning or being overwhelmed by what some people are actually able to do. I just finished my 5th dollhouse and if I only had more space in my house, I would go on and on and on ….. And every now and then I just sit in front of one of my houses and look around, see things that remind my how much fun I had making them, see things left unfinished, discover the house over and over again and with each house, a different world opens its doors and I just forget about the rest …… at least for a while.

So take a tour and enjoy .......... my little world.
